Aeronautical Data Management

In this chapter we will explore the creation and management of aeronautical data. This will include the following types of features : - Airport/Heliport. - Airspace. - Navaid. - Designated points. - Coomunication and surveilance. - Vertical structures.

Tutorial data

In order to familiarize the user with the user interface, the Aeronautical data management parts will be presented in the form of tutorials that the trainee can follow. the data used in this tutorial are related to the 4th of February international airport of Luanda (FNLU).

The data used in the rest of this chapter are as follow :

  • ARP :
    • Coordinates : S8°51.32' / E13°14.03'

    • Altitude : 238.0 feet MSL

  • Runways :
    • Runway 05/23 : 3700 x 45 meters
      • RWY05 :
        • THR Coordinates : S8°52'36.6" / E13°12'49.8"

        • THR Altitude : 238.0 feet MSL

        • Heading : 050

      • RWY23
        • THR Coordinates : S8°51'14.4" / E13°14'18.0"

Airport/Heliport

to create an Airport Heliport, follow the steps bellow :

  1. Go to the Data Toolbar and click on the airport manager button AHP_BTN,

  2. The AirportHeliport Features manager widget will apear,

  3. Click on new to create a new Airport/Heliport.

  4. This will bring the Airport/Heliport Editor Widget :
    1. Enter the Name of the airport,

    2. Enter the ICAO location indicator,

    3. Enter the IATA Code,

    4. Enter the Field Elevation,

    5. Enter the coordinates of the ARP,

    6. Enter the Elevateion of the ARP.

    7. click on OK.

Runway

to create a RWY, follow the steps bellow :

  1. Go to the Data Toolbar and click on the airport manager button AHP_BTN,

  2. The AirportHeliport Features manager widget will apear,

  3. Select an airport from the list,

  4. Click on edit,

  5. This will bring the Airport/Heliport Editor Widget :
    1. Right click on the Runways List,

    2. choose Create RWY,

    3. this will Bring up the RWY Wditor widget,
      1. Right Click on the Runway Direction List,

      2. Select the Create new Runwat Direction option,

      3. enter the Runway Direction Data,

      4. click on OK,

      5. redo the same for the opposite RWY end,

    4. Click on Auto Compute Parameters : this will update the paraneters of the RWY based on the THRs positions.

    5. click on OK to save the RWY parameters.

Airspace

to create a Navaid, follow the steps bellow :

  1. Go to the Data Toolbar and click on the Airspace manager button ASP_BTN,

  2. The Airspace Features manager widget will apear,

  3. Click on new,

  4. This will bring the Airspace Editor Widget :
    1. enter the airspace parameters,

    2. Right click on the Airspace Volume List,

    3. choose Create nes volume,

    4. double-click on the new Volume created in the List,

    5. this will Bring up the Airspace Volume Wditor widget,
      1. click on get Shape and choose the corresponding shape from the 3D view,

      2. click on OK,

    6. click on OK to save the Airspace parameters.
